10/21/09 - RAY SCOTT ANNOUNCES RUN FOR DISTRICT 54 SEAT
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (Oct. 19, 2009) - Grand Junction resident and businessman Ray Scott (R) is officially announcing his run for the State House District 54 seat in 2010. Scott, a Western Slope native, says he’ll speak for the small business community in a state over-run by unions and Gov. Bill Ritter's tax-and-fee anti-business policies.
Scott had been considering a run against Congressman John Salazar in 2010 and is on a listening tour. He wanted to get a feel for voter needs and concerns before officially announcing a decision. “While taking my listening tour I realized one thing. The people of Western Colorado want and need help," Scott says. "I realized right now it makes the most sense for me to help the people here, where I live." To help those people, Scott has set his sights on the Colorado House of Representatives and the District 54 seat currently held by Rep. Steve King. Scott wants to bring jobs back to Western Colorado, that the Democratic controlled legislature have helped drive away.
As owner of Gas Products Corporation, Coolwater Homes and Skyline Warehouse in Grand Junction, Scott understands the struggles business owners and citizens of Western Colorado are facing. He believes what are called for now are practical, responsible and quick solutions for those struggles. "We need to come up with good ideas to do things in this district. I want to lead that effort," Scott says.
Scott believes Colorado will have a new governor in 2010 and wants to keep the seat conservative. “Republicans need to hold on to that seat to help our new governor in protecting citizens in all walks of life,” he says. Scott says he'll work with the new governor to protect higher education against unfair and disproportional budget cuts.
Since Scott is among the many tired of empty campaign promises, this run is not a step he's taking lightly. "It's imperative for candidates to have a strong understanding of who they're serving and what's expected of them before they make impractical plans and promises they can't keep," he says. Scott is not a career politician and believes his fresh ideas and non-traditional approach to leadership is what's called for in Western Colorado.
Scott is continuing his listening tour despite the fact he's officially made an announcement. To schedule a meeting or for editorial information, call (970) 765-VOTE (8683) - (888)-743-9117 or email scottforcolorado@gmail.com.
